key terms:


  • Collage: An artistic composition made of various materials (such as paper, cloth, or wood) glued on a surface
  • Mosaic: A surface decoration made by inlaying small pieces of variously colored material to form pictures or patterns.
  • Composition: The arrangement of visual elements within a work of art to create a whole.
  • Juxtaposition: The intentional placement of two or more contrasting or unexpected elements side by side or on top of each other to create a comparison or contrast effect.

  • Utility Knife or Scissors
  • Envelope with your name on it
  • Magazines or Colored Paper
  • Glue or Glue Stick
  • Clear Packing Tape
  • Posterboard

Instructions

Here are step by step instructions on getting started!

Step 1: Write your name and class hour on the very edge of your cover with a marker .

Step 2: Search through magazines and make a collection of interesting picures, shapes, words, etc. by cutting them out and saving them in your envelope. When you cut out your images, make sure you are careful and neat.

Step 3: Before gluing anything down, arrange your collection into interesting compositions and decide how you want your cover to look. Pay close attention to color and shape.

Step 4: Once you are happy with your composition, glue everything down and carefully laminate your cover with packing tape. Here is a link to a video on laminating with tape if you need extra tips. You do not need to laminate the back of your cover.
